    Henna brows vs microblading

What Are The Differences Between Henna Brows & Microblading?

Eyebrow treatments have taken centre stage in the beauty industry; whether it’s bolder brows or fluffy brows, everyone is seeking a treatment that means they can wake up with perfect eyebrows! Two of the most popular eyebrow treatments that have gained immense popularity are Henna Brows and Microblading. Both offer unique benefits and cater to different needs, but what exactly sets them apart? Different clients will have varied preferences and needs, so it’s important to know the differences between Henna Brows and Microblading.

    What are Henna Brows?

Henna Brows are a form of eyebrow tinting that uses natural henna dye to stain the skin as well as the brow hairs. The purpose is to cast a shadow or create an illusion of depth and fullness, visually filling in any sparseness. Henna is a natural ingredient that has been used for centuries for body art and hair dye. Read our Step by Step guide to perfect henna brows here.

    Benefits of Henna Brows:

    • A natural-based formula
    • Suitable for those who want a longer-lasting but temporary solution.
    • Can last up to 6 weeks on the hair and up to 2 weeks on the skin.
    • Ideal for those with sparse eyebrows as it dyes the skin, creating a fuller look.

    What is Microblading?

Microblading is a semi-permanent tattooing technique where a small handheld tool made up of several tiny needles is used to add semi-permanent pigment to the skin. It mimics the appearance of natural brow hairs, creating a more defined and fuller brow.

    Benefits of Microblading:

    • Offers a more permanent solution than henna brows.
    • Can last up to 12 months before it starts fading.
    • Provides a natural look by mimicking real brow hairs.
    • Suitable for those with very sparse or no eyebrows.

    Key Differences:

Duration of Results: Microbladed brows can last up to 12 months before it starts fading out, and can last 2-3 years in total while henna brows last for about 6 weeks on the hair.

Procedure Time: Henna brows are quicker to apply compared to microblading, which is a more detailed and intricate procedure.

Pain and Discomfort: Microblading can be slightly painful as it involves making small cuts in the skin, whereas henna brows are painless.

Dangers: Microblading is an invasive procedure by making small cuts in the skin to insert pigment. Perfect hygiene and aftercare is important to avoid infection. Henna Brows are non-invasive as they simply dye the hairs and skin. Henna powder contains small amounts of PPD which in some cases can cause an allergic reaction therefore patch testing it paramount.

Aftercare: Microblading requires specific aftercare to ensure the longevity of the results, including avoiding water and sweat. In contrast, henna brows have minimal aftercare.

    Which One to Choose?

The choice between henna brows and Microblading ultimately depends on the client's needs and preferences. If a client is looking for a more temporary solution to enhance their brows, henna brows might be the ideal choice. On the other hand, if they desire a longer-lasting and more defined brow, Microblading would be more suitable.

Both Henna Brows and Microblading offer unique benefits and cater to different eyebrow needs. As a Brow Technician, it's essential to understand the differences between the two to provide the best advice and service to your clients.
