In the world of eyelash extensions, there's been a surge in demand for a look that effortlessly combines drama with natural beauty. Enter: Hybrid Lash Extensions – the best of both worlds. Bridging the gap between classic and volume extensions, hybrid lashes offer a customisable, fluffier look that many clients love. If you're eager to know more about this trending eyelash treatment, you're in the right place. In this article, we'll explore what hybrid lash extensions are and guide you through the steps to create the perfect natural hybrid lash set.
Hybrid lash extensions are a combination of two different lash application techniques: Classic and Volume.
A hybrid set mixes these two techniques, resulting in a multi-dimensional, fuller appearance that still maintains a natural essence. A hybrid lash set is perfect for clients who seek versatility and want volume without the drama, favouring something more natural. On the other hand, hybrid extensions are ideal for clients with sparse lashes, as those volume fans can fill out any gaps, resulting in a full and fluffy lash set which is free from gaps.
Mapping a hybrid lash set on the natural side doesn’t mean you have to compromise on the shape of the lash map. In fact this versatile set can be created in any lash map desired. A perfectly suited map for any client would of course be the Squirrel style, but don’t be afraid to consult with your client to find out exactly what they desire. Simply remember, with this particular hybrid set you’re hoping to achieve a more natural look, so a more dramatic lash map such as Cat-Eye style may not be ideal every time or for every client.
Always begin with your comprehensive Pretreatment routine. Whether it is a minimalistic one or our London Lash ultimate 5-Step Pretreatment, preparing the lashes is vital. Consider the health of your clients lashes, especially if they have sparse or weak natural lashes, and be gentle during Pretreatment.
Choosing the right Eyelash Extensions for hybrid lashes may seem a little daunting at first, especially when you’re dealing with mixing techniques and variants of lash extensions. You can read our blog post on which lashes to use for a hybrid lash set here, but to sum up, we usually recommend 0.05 - 0.07 Lashes to create Volume lash fans. You can choose if you use Chelsea, Mayfair, Premade Fans or even Easy Fanning Lashes to create your gorgeous fans. Using Premade or Easy Fanning lashes can save you time and even create some texture and dimension, but if you’re seeking the more natural lash set, we’d recommend aiming for a natural top line – the good news is that this is the easiest top line to create. Simply by applying the same length lashes to each layer, you’ll have a top line that’s not too manicured, and not overly wispy.
Similarly, for your Classic lashes you can choose from Chelsea, Mayfair or even Ellipse Flat Lashes, here we recommend you use 0.12 - 0.15 Lashes. If you are looking for a little more texture to complement your lash fans, the Flat Lashes in our range feature a split tip which adds a touch of volume and dimension, but if you do want the more classic natural look, stick to Chelsea lashes. Ellipse Flat Lashes will be suitable for clients with weaker or sparse lashes so do consider them for this purpose.
Remember, you are the Lash Tech – choose your products based on your experience and expertise, and of course decide accordingly based on your client’s desires and your overall goal. Creating a natural hybrid lash extensions set doesn’t mean going over the top with volume, in fact, you’ll achieve a perfect natural set with 2-3D lash fans.
While applying a hybrid set we always advise you to lash from eye to eye, meaning that you start on one of your client’s eyes and lash from the outer corners working inwards, periodically switching between eyes so you can mirror your work from eye to eye. Keep switching between eyes so you can make sure your work is even and cohesive and this way you will avoid stickies too.
Creating natural hybrid lashes can seem like an oxymoron, but while you are adding volume through lash fans, it doesn’t mean that you have to overwhelm the lash line and create drama. Simply add enough to fill out gaps or sparseness to create a natural looking lash line. Hybrid lashes do not mean that you must use 50 / 50 Volume fans and Classic lashes, so don’t be afraid to alternate and decide what suits your client best. For a more natural look, feel free to stick more towards the classic lashes and add volume where necessary to create the shape and style you’re going for.
