One thing that should not be underestimated when it comes to Henna Brows is the brow mapping itself! There are so many different factors of brow mapping to be considered, all of which have an effect on the finished look. In this blog we’re going to be looking at the importance of considering face shape, and how to tailor your client’s henna brows to their face so they can leave your salon looking and feeling a million dollars!
Aside from looking amazing, eyebrows do actually serve a real purpose, believe it or not! Your brows are there to shield your eyes from any foreign bodies including dust, water and debris as well as playing a part in reducing some of the natural light shining into your eyes!
Another thing eyebrows are crucial for is showing expression. So many of our facial expressions are controlled by our eyebrows, as they alter their position on our face based on what we’re feeling! This means that the shape of your eyebrows has a huge impact on how your face looks as a whole and can affect the way you are expressing yourself, without even realising it.
Different face shapes will be best suited for different eyebrow shapes, lengths and measurements. It’s always good to know this information so you can get the best results for your clients and make sure they don’t head home looking permanently scared!
There are a variety of naturally occurring eyebrow shapes which includes rounded, arched, ascending, descending and straight. The key is to always pick the brow option that will counteract the face shape, which in turn, creates balance!
Oval faces are already fairly balanced on the whole, so the best choice for an oval-shaped face is a subtle soft arch. This will beautifully compliment the natural shape of the face without altering the silhouette and without throwing off any facial balance.
A heart-shaped face occurs when the chin is narrow and sharp and the forehead is slightly wider, creating the perfect heart - so cute! You’re going to want to go for soft, rounded brows to counteract the harsher angles on the client’s face.
Long faces are perfectly suited to straight, long brows, with very low arches. This works to add width to the face, creating more symmetry and complete facial harmony!
You’re probably starting to see the pattern by now! If you’re working on a square face, it’s best to create a soft brow with no sharp angles to add softness to the face. Any sharp brow angles on a square face can run the risk of making the face look too hard.
Round faces need high-arched brows with strong angles that will elongate the face. The angles of the brow will neutralise the roundness of the face. The high arch will lift the eye area, balancing the overall look.
The brow goal for a diamond shape is to lift the eye area to make the face look slightly rounder than it is. Again with strong angles on the face, we want to opt for soft brows with natural curves which balance the structure of a diamond face shape.
Always make sure to do a thorough consultation with your brow clients including a facial analysis and their desired look. You may find that some clients ask for a brow shape that you know won’t serve their face shape, so it’s always best to recommend the option you believe to be best and explain why this will work for them. However, we don’t want any arguments so if your diamond-faced customer is set on strong, sharp brows then that’s what they’ll get!
