    Summertime Henna Brows

Each and every summer, brow loving clients are eager for beauty solutions that are as low-maintenance as they are stunning. Henna brows are an ideal choice, providing a natural and long-lasting colour that’s perfect for the sunny season, that will last through all the activities in store such as sunbathing, swimming and outdoor exercise. Here’s a comprehensive guide for Brow Technicians to create flawless So Henna brows that will keep your clients looking fabulous all summer long.

So Henna Applied to EyebrowUnderstanding Henna Brows

Henna brows involve using a natural dye derived from the henna plant to colour the eyebrows. This method not only colours the hair but also stains the skin beneath, offering a fuller and more defined look. Henna is a fantastic alternative to traditional eyebrow tints, being more natural, longer-lasting, and less likely to cause irritation. Be prepared to patch-test all new clients, as some can be allergic to the small amount of PPD present in henna powder. Read all about patch-testing for henna brows here.

    Step-by-Step Guide

    1. Preparation:

Begin by gathering all necessary materials. An easy way to do this is to invest in a comprehensive So Henna Brow Kit, which of course includes henna powder, mapping tools, a mixer tool and brush applicators. Ensure you also have cleansing wipes or cotton pads and water to make sure you’re ready for the removal of the henna stain once it has developed.

Cleanse the client’s eyebrows thoroughly to remove any makeup, oil, or dirt using Foam Cleanser and a brow spoolie for gentle exfoliation. This ensures the henna has a clean base to be able to work properly. Pat the brows dry, and brush them into the desired shape using a clean eyebrow spoolie and your prep is set.

    1. Mixing Henna:

Use the included spatula to add a scoop of So Henna powder to a glass dish, along with a few drops of water, and then follow the instructions in this So Henna guide on how to mix the henna powder with your Mixer Tool. The mixture should have a consistency similar to honey, but can be thinner or thicker depending on how deep of a colour you are aiming for; a thicker consistency means a deeper colour, and a thinner consistency means a more subtle colouring. Allow the henna to sit for a few minutes to activate fully.

    1. Application:

Map out your client’s desired brow shape using White Paste or a Brow Pencil for precision. Using the angled eyebrow brush, apply the henna mixture to the eyebrows, starting from the outer corner and working inward. Ensure even coverage or hair-like brush strokes for a natural look, or apply a thicker layer where a more defined result is desired by pressing in the henna paste instead of brushing it through.

    1. Setting and Removal:

Allow the henna to set for 10-20 minutes, depending on the depth of colour your client prefers. For a lighter shade, 10 minutes will suffice, while 20 minutes will yield a darker, bolder look. For an ombre finish, remove the inner section of the brow a couple of minutes before removing the henna on the body and tail of the brow. With So Henna, you can create bespoke results by combining any of our powders together. By nature, So Henna brow powder has a cooler undertone. You can warm the tone of any of the shades by adding a small amount of Sweetener, or you can cool the tone further by adding a little Espresso. Gently remove the henna paste with damp cotton pads, avoiding any scrubbing to reveal beautifully tinted brows.

Mapping So Henna EyebrowsSummer Maintenance Tips for Your Clients

Advise your clients to avoid water on their brows for at least 24 hours post-application to ensure the tint lasts longer, and after that time advise that they avoid scrubbing while cleansing their face. Recommend protecting their brows from prolonged sun exposure by wearing a hat or using an eyebrow-friendly sunscreen. Suggest keeping their brows hydrated with our nourishing So Henna Oil, which you can retail in your salon, to maintain their colour and health. And lastly, provide your clients with an Aftercare Sheet to make sure they keep on top of their brow maintenance at home.

Model Holding So Henna Brow PowderBy following these steps, you can offer your clients beautifully defined, low-maintenance henna brows that will last throughout the summer. Your expertise will help them embrace the season with confidence, knowing their brows are perfectly on point.
