Set Up Policies to Benefit Your Lash Business This Winter
As the winter months set in and cold weather sweeps across Europe, the hours of daylight become shorter and you may find yourself lashing through longer, darker evenings. This can feel challenging and draining, so taking care of yourself and maintaining the quality of your work is important.
Winter can be a difficult time for Lash Techs, not only because of the change in weather but also because it is often one of the busiest periods of the year. Here are some policies you can introduce to protect your wellbeing, manage client expectations and maintain the quality of your services throughout the festive season.
Appointments
The festive season may require longer working hours as more clients book appointments for their preferred lash sets. If you plan to introduce additional appointment slots, consider adding only two or three per week to avoid overbooking yourself and increasing the risk of burnout.
Establish a clear deposit and cancellation policy. Taking a deposit when the appointment is booked can help protect your income if a client cancels. This is particularly important before January, which is often a quieter month for Lash Technicians.
The amount charged as a deposit is at the discretion of each salon or Lash Tech. Some beauty businesses request up to 50% of the treatment price, but you should ensure that your policy complies with applicable consumer laws and clearly explain when the deposit is refundable.
Make your cancellation policy easy to find and understand. Decide how much notice clients must provide based on how quickly you can realistically fill the appointment. For example, you might require at least 48 hours’ notice for a cancellation or rescheduling request.
Explain what happens to the client’s deposit when insufficient notice is provided. Include these terms during booking and ask clients to confirm that they have read and accepted them.
- If you employ other Lash Artists, discuss whether additional hours can be offered during particularly busy periods. Avoid placing pressure on employees to work excessive hours and ensure that any schedule changes comply with employment requirements. Extending your opening hours may accommodate more clients, but only when your team has the capacity to do so safely.
Seasonal Promotions and Packages
The festive season is a good opportunity to reward loyal clients. You could offer a returning-client promotion, a referral reward or a seasonal package that demonstrates your appreciation while encouraging repeat bookings.
One option is to offer a package covering a full lash set and a future infill at a combined price. Make it clear what qualifies as an infill and when a new full set will be required. For example, clients returning with less than 40% of their extensions remaining may need to book a full set instead.
You can also create seasonal promotions around traditional eyelash extension styles. Festive or highly detailed designs may require additional time and can be priced accordingly, while familiar styles such as Cat Eye, Dolly or Squirrel sets could be included in selected promotional packages.
Take Care of Yourself
Winter can bring an increase in seasonal illnesses, so create a contingency plan for staff absence and appointment disruption. If you manage a team, ensure that appointments are only reassigned where another Lash Tech has suitable availability and capacity.
If you work alone, establish a policy asking unwell clients to postpone their appointments. This helps protect you, other clients and any colleagues sharing the salon. Keep your treatment area clean and follow appropriate hygiene procedures between appointments.
During treatments, you may choose to wear a protective mask. Replace your nitrile gloves between clients and whenever they become contaminated or damaged.
You may also ask clients to sanitise their hands when they arrive. Where additional facial protection is appropriate, a face shield is available for use during treatments.
Stay Hydrated and Take Breaks
Remember to schedule regular breaks and stay hydrated throughout the working day. Our London Lash Glass Water Bottle is a practical option for keeping water nearby during busy salon days.
Eat substantial, nutritious meals that provide more sustained energy than relying on snacks or energy drinks alone. If you sit for extended periods, use your breaks to stand, stretch and take a short walk. Introducing these policies can help you and your clients enjoy a more organised and comfortable festive period.
