It goes without saying that beauty salons and services should always be clean and hygienic for clients. Whether you work in a lash extension salon or you’re a mobile Lash Artist, having a hygienic work environment, clean tools and safe practices is vital for both client health and business success.

Many countries and regions have specific guidelines concerning hygiene and sanitation within beauty services. Following these requirements will help protect your clients, business and professional reputation. Let’s discuss some of the best practices.

Workstation

Keeping your workplace clean is vital not only for attracting new and returning clients, but also for keeping them safe from bacteria, illness and infection. We often discuss the importance of Pre-treatment and Aftercare for clean and healthy lashes, but these standards should also extend to your working environment.

Keeping your salon hygienic does not always require heavy chemicals or bleach. Many products available today are eco-friendly and free from unnecessarily harsh chemicals, helping your salon remain clean, safe and fresh.

Use biodegradable wipes to clean surfaces such as your lash trolley, lash bed and Memory Foam Lash Pillow between clients. You should also ensure your tweezers are always thoroughly cleaned.

Tools and Storage

Depending on the country or region in which you work, there may be specific laws and regulations covering hygiene within beauty services. These rules are designed to keep you and your clients safe, so make sure you understand the local requirements and follow them between every appointment.

Some countries may require tools and equipment to be sterilised using an autoclave, while others may require sanitisation with approved disinfectant sprays or wipes. Regardless of the precise regulations, Lash Artists should maintain excellent hygiene practices.

Clean your workstation and tools after every client and always have a spare pair of Tweezers available so you can work with a clean set between appointments. At the end of each day, clean all wipeable surfaces and empty your bins appropriately.

After disinfecting your tools, especially tweezers, allow them to dry on a clean paper towel before storing them in a Tweezer Case or Tweezer Holder. Your tools must be completely dry before storage to prevent tarnishing. Suitable storage will also keep your workstation tidy and your tools ready for their next use.

Some tools used for lash Pre-treatment and cleansing are disposable to help protect your clients. Micro Fibre Brushes, Micro Brushes, Cleansing Applicators and Mascara Wands should be disposed of after every use.

Always wash your hands and use hand sanitiser between clients, regardless of how clean your tools and workspace are.

Mobile Lash Technicians

We haven’t forgotten about mobile Lash Techs. The working environment of a mobile Lash Artist is different from that of someone based permanently in a beauty salon, so additional hygiene and protection may be necessary.

Mobile Lash Artists may work as guests in beauty salons or travel between clients’ homes. This creates additional challenges when it comes to cleaning and sanitising tools and equipment.
